An exclusive interview to announce the launch of Three Points revealed that the decision to establish Three Points with a focus on both technology and sports law reflects the growing intersection of those sectors.
“They are quite intertwined these days,” Simon told The Lawyer. “You look at all of the best sports teams, athletes, and rights holders out there and they are all using technology. They are very natural bedfellows in many ways.”
“A lot of the work that we do borrows some of the thinking and some of the expertise from other areas,” said Tom.
Simon recognises that when it comes to “the kind of work that we do, there’s less need to be in a big city firm, and the clients can receive a much better service at a more reasonable price when you’re a bit more nimble and agile and not constrained by some of the issues that will crop up in larger organisations.”
The article lists some of Simon and Tom’s clients to date including footballer Marcus Rashford, Formula 1 driver Alex Albon and TikTok.
Tom points out that Three Points has launched with a roster of “big name” clients: “It reflects how people’s expectations have changed. A lawyer used to give black letter legal advice and say ‘this is my interpretation of the law’. Now you are advisors and the law is one element of that.”
Focusing on Three Points’ integration of technology, Simon says “there are a lot of bigger law firms out there that like to talk a good game when it comes to using and adopting technology, but there are very few that are living and breathing it.”
He also highlights the limitations of traditional hourly billing model used by many firms, and how such an approach can discourage use of technology that speeds up processes: “Not everyone working in a law firm thinks like that, but generally the mindset is still stuck in the 20th century rather than embracing technology and being able to use it.”

This article outlines Simon and Tom’s successful working partnership prior to founding Three Points Law, including recently acting “on the legal framework behind the U.K.’s most powerful artificial intelligence supercomputer”, quoting Simon saying Three Points is “a real opportunity … to shake up the legal market and change what is still a pretty archaic way of doing things.”
